Airline Information

American Airlines is offering special discounted rates to ARRS attendees. Go to www.aa.com and on the left side of the screen click reservations. For the AA.com discount code, enter A0848AD. By phone, call reservations at 800-433-1790 and mention ARRS authorization number A0848AD. Attendees will receive 5% off published round trip fares for all classes originating from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Bermuda, Europe and Japan. Note: Some fares are not valid for the discount. Reservation agents are on duty seven days a week from 5:00 am–12:00 midnight CST. AAdvantage members receive full credit for miles flown.

  • From Airport to Marriott Wardman Park Hotel: 9 mi NW
  • Driving Directions: Follow the signs to Washington D.C. (George Washington Parkway). Take I-395 North to Route 1 (Route 1 is the 14th Street Bridge). Merge to the far left lane on the bridge and follow the signs for 14th Street. Take 14th Street for 1 mile. Turn left onto K Street. Continue on K for 5 blocks. Turn right onto Connecticut. Ave. Follow Connecticut. Ave. for 1 mile. Cross over the William Taft Bridge. Make a left turn at the 3rd light after the bridge onto Woodley Rd. The Hotel entrance is on left. 

Washington Dulles International Aiport - IAD

  • From Airport to Marriott Wardman Park Hotel: 25 mi NE
  • Driving Directions: Follow the signs to Interstate 66 east to Washington. Follow I-66 to the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge (US Route 50). Take the Constitution Ave exit off of the bridge. Continue on Constitution for 6 blocks and make a left turn onto 17th Street. This will change to Connecticut Ave. Continue on Connecticut. Ave. for 1 mile. Cross over the William Taft Bridge. Make a left turn at the 3rd light after the bridge onto Woodley Ave. The hotel entrance is on the left.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport - BWI

  • From Airport to Marriott Wardman Park Hotel: 33 mi NE
  • Driving Directions: Take I-95 South to I-495 West. Take Exit 33, Connecticut Ave. Southbound. Continue on Connecticut Avenue for about 6.5 miles. Turn right onto Woodley Road. The hotel entrance is on the left.

Train Information

Amtrak operates almost 100 trains daily to and from Washington, DC’s Union Station. Several routes offer service to Union Station. For schedule and fare information, please visit www.amtrak.com or call Amtrak reservations at 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245). When making your reservation, please use the station code WAS for Washington, DC-Union Station. The station is approximately 4 miles from the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel and can be accessed via the Metro red line from Union Station (Stop: Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan).

Tours and Local Activities

All local activity tours are provided by VRS Meetings and Events, Inc. Please address all queries to VRS Meetings and Events, Inc.

Advanced Registration for tours is now closed. You will be able to purchase tickets on-site on a space available basis. Each ticket purchased on-site is subject to a $5 service fee.

Payment Deadline
Full payment including the $7.00 per form processing fee must accompany the registration form and must be received by Friday, March 14, 2008. Forms after this date will not be accepted.

All payments must be made in U.S. funds. If paying by check, please make check payable to VRS Meetings and Events, Inc. For credit card payments, only VISA, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.

Refunds
Refunds minus the $7.00 processing fee will only be made if written notice is received by VRS Meetings and Events, Inc. by Friday, March 14, 2008.

Cancellation
VRS reserves the right to cancel any tours with low enrollment. All low enrollment tours will be cancelled by Monday, March 17, 2008 and all collected monies will be refunded. Otherwise no refunds or exchanges will be made after Friday, March14, 2008.

How Do You Receive Your Tickets
Pre-paid tickets will be available for pick-up at the VRS Tour Desk located at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in the ARRS annual meeting registration area. Tickets will not be mailed.

All tours depart the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel at the 24th Street entrance.

A confirmation of the order will be e-mailed to the address provided on the form.


MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2008

9:00 am – 12:00 noon – Cherry Blossoms and the Tidal Basin
Nothing signals spring in Washington, DC more than the blooming cherry trees surrounding the Tidal Basin. The beautiful pink and white blossoms attract throngs of visitors each year. Learn the history behind the donation of 3,000 cherry trees in 1912 by Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo. Walk the Tidal Basin with your knowledgeable guide and admire the beauty of the cherry blossoms. The tour includes a stop at the Jefferson Memorial at the edge of the Tidal Basin. This is a walking tour; comfortable shoes are recommended.

1:00 pm – 4:30 pm – The Splendor of Capitol Hill

The U.S. Capitol building dominates both America’s political landscape and Washington’s majestic cityscape. A member of the United States Capitol Historical Society will provide an enlightening and energetic tour of the Rotunda, Old Senate Chambers, Old Supreme Court Chambers, Brumidi corridors, Hall of Columns, the Minton Tiles and Statuary Hall. You’ll be amazed by the historical significance of the paintings and frescoes as well as entertained with the intriguing stories of some of the many famous leaders who have passed through these halls. This is a walking tour; comfortable shoes are recommended.

8:00 pm – 11:00 pm – Illuminating Washington
Perhaps the most enchanting way to see Washington is by moonlight when the monuments and white marble buildings are illuminated. This riding tour passes by the U.S. Capitol Building, Washington Monument and various museums before a stop at the World War II Memorial, a moving tribute to those who changed the course of history. This tour also includes stops at the Jefferson, Lincoln, Vietnam and Korean Memorials.

TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 2008

8:30 am – 3:00 pm – Amazing Annapolis
Discover why a 1770 visitor to Annapolis, Maryland described it as “the genteelest town in North America,” adding, “I hardly know a town in England as desirable to live in.” Enjoy a colonial walking tour and experience what life was like for the city’s colonial inhabitants. Visit the Maryland State House, the oldest state house still in use in America. Tour the U.S. Naval Academy grounds before enjoying lunch at Phillips Restaurant. After lunch, enjoy time on your own to explore the many delightful shops and boutiques. This is a walking tour; comfortable shoes are recommended. Note that entrance into the Maryland State House and U.S. Naval Academy requires photo identification for anyone 16 years of age and older. Everyone entering the Maryland State House will pass through a metal detector.
