American Roentgen Ray Society - Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities with ARRS

ARRS encourages its membership to get involved with the Society. The mission of the Society is to advance medicine through the science of radiology and its allied sciences by enabling the creation and exchange of knowledge and information in the field through its journal, meetings and other means. Volunteers are the foundation of ARRS and allow the Society to ensure its mission and strategic initiatives are achieved.

You can make a difference with ARRS and contribute to the radiology profession in a variety ways:

AJR manuscript reviewer
Reviewers are asked to read and provide feedback on one or two manuscripts a month in their subspecialty area of expertise for the American Journal of Roentgenology.

AJR Integrative Imaging manuscript reviewer
Reviewers are asked to provide feedback on 1 or 2 educational manuscripts per year in their subspecialty area of expertise for AJR Integrative Imaging.

Guest editor of the AJR Policy Brief

The American Journal of Roentgenology features a brief each month on issues related to health policy. The brief covers Medicare and other payer issues, as well as legal and social issues as they relate to radiology and medicine.  Volunteers interested in writing about these topics are invited as guest editors for the policy brief.

Contributor to the ARRS InPractice magazine
ARRS members are invited to make topic suggestions for and serve as guest editor of the Issues and Answers section and Viewpoints section of the ARRS InPractice magazine. These sections in the Society's quarterly newsletter are designed to encourage discussion of key issues affecting the practice of radiology.

Abstract reviewer
ARRS receives scientific abstracts from July 1–October 1 annually. Members of the Scientific Program Subcommittee review abstracts during the months of October and November. Each committee member reviews abstracts in their area of expertise and may be asked to assist in the final selection of abstracts to be accepted. Accepted abstracts are given as oral presentations and scientific exhibits at the ARRS Annual Meeting. Abstract reviewers often serve as moderators of the scientific sessions during the meeting.

Scientific session moderator for the ARRS Annual Meeting
Each scientific session at the Annual Meeting has two moderators. Moderator responsibilities include introducing speakers and moderating discussion of presentations.

Content/Subject matter expert
Individuals with subspecialty areas of expertise are needed to review and provide feedback on content related to educational and informational materials, including maintenance of certification (MOC) documents, self-assessment modules (SAMs), enduring material for CME credit, white papers, etc.

The Roentgen Fund® fundraising activities
The Roentgen Fund® enhances the ARRS mission by sponsoring educational, scientific, and research initiatives that contribute to excellence in radiology and medicine. Volunteers are needed to help solicit funds for the foundation.
