GASTROINTESTINAL IMAGING

History

39 year-old female presents to the emergency room for diffuse abdominal pain. Vital signs and serum chemistries are within normal limits. CT of the abdomen and pelvis is ordered.

Imaging Findings

The appendix is enlarged, measuring approximately 1.4 cm in diameter and it appears to be enhancing (blue arrows). Of note, there are no periappendiceal inflammatory changes (yellow asterisk). Pertinent negatives include a lack of an appendicolith, periappendiceal fat stranding, cecal apical thickening, or perforation.
